| A 36,000 t/a acetic acid unit of the high pressure methanol oxo synthesis process including 36,000 t/a methanol unit and CO purification towers will be constructed in the Guizhou Organic Chemical General Plant. Methanol is reacted with CO in the presence of a catalyst to produce acetic acid. The major raw material is coal. Some of the equipment, such as coal gas purification units, CO purification units, the methanol reaction units and acetic acid units will be imported. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| Guizhou Organic Chemical General Plant now produces acetic acid by using acetylene as raw material and mercury sulphate as catalyst. Mercury discharge produces serious environmental pollution. Wastewater containing mercury currently contaminates arable land of 240 ha. around the plant. Mercury emissions also contaminate the atmosphere and land in the vicinity of the plant. In place of the existing mercury process, the new process is of advanced technology, low cost and can eliminate pollution by eradicating the mercury completely. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
