According to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 190 of the 47th Session in 1992 and Resolution 113 of the 50th UNGA Session in 1995, the Special Session of the UN General Assembly on Environment and Development will be held in 1997. The purpose of this conference is to examine and evaluate the overall progress made by all Member States im implementing Agenda 21 since the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), held in 1992. For this improtant conference, the Government of China has compiled this National Report, to review and summarise progress from 1992 to 1996, on Sustainable Development in the People's Republic of China.
